Burtsfield Demolition

It is unreasonable to assume the Republican city administration and the partisan West Lafayette School Board did not have substantive conversations about the Burtsfield demolition. It is unreasonable to assume the Republican city administration and the partisan West Lafayette School Board did not have substantive conversations about the funding of the Burtsfield demolition. It is unreasonable to assume the Republican city administration and the partisan West Lafayette School Board did not recognize that this demolition might be a matter of public interest. So why then did the Republican city administration and the partisan West Lafayette School Board decide to hide this decision, preferring instead the insiders wink and nod and nudge. This may be the best idea ever. But good old boy politics are not best for the city.

I asked Bev Shaw of the City's Development Dept. whether trees surrounding Burtsfield will be protected during the demolition. She says all will be with the exception of some in front right next to the building. I'm not sure exactly what that means. She'll pass on the word to officials that the neighborhood is watching. --Shelley Lowenberg-DeBoer
